Pastor Kevin O. Smith killed two of his members in an alleged human sacrifice ritual. He called the service a “Roman Catholic Sacrifice”. Smith, the pastor of St. James Pathways International Kingdom Restoration Ministries, has been arrested. However, within two hours of his arrest, believers had raised over $30,000 to cover his legal fees.
Upon entering the building, authorities found several animals and naked men who also were being prepared for sacrifice. Three more congregants were taken to the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries. Smith was held for questioning, along with 10 men and 31 women who were attending the ceremony. Fourteen children who were also present have been taken into protective custody.
Police are currently investigating allegations that Smith was also abusing some of the boys, who were close to him. An unnamed source said:
There is huge concern that influential people — including other local police officials — were involved and that this may have happened before and gone unreported.
Law enforcement was alerted by a woman who claims to have been physically harmed for disobeying the church. Authorities say the ritual took place after approximately 50 members of the congregation participated in two days of fasting in preparation for a “Noah’s Ark” redemption journey. They were advised to arrive dressed in all white, leaving their phones at home, wrapped in aluminum foil. The pastor posted the following on Facebook:
The Ark is loading now! Leave immediately dressed in white … It is a Roman Catholic sacrifice — it will have no survivors.”
According to sources, Smith believed the church members were victims of “bloodline pollution caused by witchcraft,” which was causing “sex dreams.” Smith intended to purify them through a bloodletting ceremony. Before police entered the building, one man and one woman had their throats slashed by the pastor as he was assisted by another member of the church, believed to be a police officer.
A 39-year-old office worker named Tanecka Gardner was the first to be sacrificed by having her throat cut. Then a man was ordered to strip naked and died in the same way to get the “impure” blood out of his body.” A third follower died in an exchange of gunfire with police, while three other attendees were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. When speaking of this tragedy, a friend and co-worker of Gardner said:
She just never deserved to die like this. I worked with Gardner, of whom she has many fond memories, for five years. The Taneka that I knew, and would want to remember, is the Taneka who was always helpful and willing to try.
The woman also said Gardner, who oftentimes encouraged her colleagues to visit the church, was loyal to the faith and believed the pastor was “next to God.” She added:
Thinking now, she was committed, and she truly believed in the faith. If the pastor said to her, ‘I want you to get 10 quarts of oil’, she is going to get it. No matter where she gets it from, she is going to get it. It was where her heart was, whether or not it’s a cult or whatever.”
Thankfully, a woman “sounded the alarm” after being hurt for disobeying church orders. The police believe more people would have died if they were not notified. Co-workers of Gardner are mourning following her untimely death during Sunday’s human sacrifice ritual at Pathways International Kingdom Restoration Ministries in Albion, St James.
Forty-two members of the church were arrested after the police, on their approach to the building, were reportedly fired upon. Among them were 31 women charged with breaches of the Disaster Risk Management Act. The women were all given bail. The incrimination also included 14 children, who are now being held by the state.
